Treestep
Gamified, RPG-style portfolio tracker that turns manual investing into quests, XP and guilds — for French retail investors.
Treestep is a French, web-based portfolio tracker that reframes investing as a role-playing game: you enter positions manually and it prices 70+ supported ETFs, stocks and cryptos while awarding XP, badges and levels (from Seed to Myth) for journaling, analysis and completing quests. On top of tracking it layers an AI Portfolio Coach that flags ETF overlap and sector overexposure, 80+ investing guides, and community “guilds” with Discord channels. It runs a permanent free tier plus a €9.99/month premium for the AI features and full content. It is early-stage but actively maintained, with fresh content published in mid-2026.

Best for
Beginner French retail investors who struggle to stay consistent and want motivation, education and community around a simple manual portfolio — rather than deep analytics or broker auto-sync.
Strengths
- Genuine permanent free tier with no account linking or credit card
- Manual-first and privacy-friendly — it never connects to your bank or broker
- Strong education and community layer (80+ guides, guilds, Discord) unusual for a tracker
- AI Portfolio Coach surfaces ETF duplicates and sector overexposure
- Actively maintained, low-commitment and tailored to France and the PEA
Trade-offs
- Very limited asset universe (~70 predefined assets); no CSV import and no broker auto-sync
- Thin analytics: undocumented return method, no true portfolio-vs-index benchmark, no dividend tracking or forecast, no tax report
- Web-only — no native iOS/Android app and no PWA, so mobile is browser-only
- Gamification and community are the real focus; serious trackers will find the core tracking shallow
- Small and unproven (a few hundred launch users, ~17 Trustpilot reviews); longevity unclear
Treestep vs PortfolioGlance
Treestep and PortfolioGlance barely compete on the same axis: Treestep wins on motivation, education and community — XP, quests, guilds and 80+ guides — which we deliberately do not do. But as a tracker it is shallow: a fixed ~70-asset universe, no documented returns, no index benchmark, no dividends and no rebalancing. PortfolioGlance is a full multi-asset tracker with time- and money-weighted returns, a health score, rebalancing against a target, goal projection, benchmarking and an AI roast. Treestep is worth it when gamified habit-building is what keeps you investing; actually measuring and improving the portfolio is what PortfolioGlance is for.
