Koyfin
Institutional-grade market data and global screening on Capital IQ and Morningstar feeds, at retail prices.
Koyfin (New York, founded 2016) sells one thing convincingly: institutional-grade data — S&P Capital IQ, Morningstar, MT Newswires — at retail prices, wrapped in dashboards that feel like a lighter Bloomberg. The screener runs on 5,900+ criteria across fundamentals, technicals and analyst estimates, over 80,000+ companies worldwide, with separate screeners for ETFs, mutual funds and US SMAs, plus template screens to start from. Alerting is full-spectrum (price, technical signals, valuation levels, news) across desktop, email and push, and the mobile app is one of the best-rated in the category. The catches are structural: no API at all — the vendor cites data-provider restrictions — and CSV export exists but cannot include financials, valuation, estimates or growth columns for the same licensing reason. Custom formulas exist but only as watchlist columns, there is no composite stock score, and there is deliberately no AI.

Best for
Data-hungry global investors and finance professionals who want Capital IQ-grade fundamentals, estimates and macro in one affordable terminal — and who work inside the platform rather than exporting from it.
Strengths
- Institutional data sources (S&P Capital IQ, Morningstar) with genuinely global coverage at retail prices
- Deep screening: 5,900+ criteria and separate equity, ETF, mutual-fund and SMA screeners with templates
- Full-spectrum alerts — price, technical, valuation-level and news — delivered to desktop, email and push
- One of the best-rated mobile apps in the category (4.9★ on iOS), actively updated
Trade-offs
- No API at all, by the vendor's own admission — and that is a data-licensing constraint, not a roadmap gap
- Export is hollowed out: financials, valuation, estimates and growth columns cannot leave the platform
- Custom formulas work only as watchlist columns — you cannot screen on them
- Key workflows (model portfolios, more formulas, full history) climb quickly into the $79+/month tiers
Koyfin vs PortfolioGlance
Koyfin is a market-data terminal; PortfolioGlance is a portfolio ledger — the overlap is nearly zero. PortfolioGlance has no screener, no estimates database and no macro dashboards, so an investor who lives in fundamentals, analyst revisions and cross-asset charts needs Koyfin or something like it. In the other direction, Koyfin's watchlists and model portfolios stop short of ownership accounting: no multi-currency cost basis, no dividend income ledger, no allocation health score, no goal projection, and its data cannot even be exported to build that elsewhere. Research and monitor markets in Koyfin; keep the book of what you actually own — across stocks, bonds, cash and property — in a tracker like PortfolioGlance.
