Free, self-hostable tracker for listed stocks and ETFs, with a real REST API and AI chat on your own model or key.
Self-hosters who want their tracker on their own server get a tidy option in Investbrain. It's free: the official Docker image has over 90,000 pulls, and the hosted version asks for no payment either. You enter buys and sells by hand, prices come from a market-data provider you can swap, and an AI chat answers questions about your holdings through OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or a local model in Ollama, with your own key. The REST API is properly documented, with a published OpenAPI spec. Two limits show up in its code. Every holding must be a ticker the price provider knows, so property, cash, bonds and crypto are out. And the gain is market value minus average cost, with no time- or money-weighted return. The CC-BY-NC 4.0 licence allows personal use but not commercial use, so despite the README's wording it isn't open source in the OSI sense.

Best for
Developers with a server at home who hold listed stocks and ETFs and want their data and their AI under their own control. Skip it if you hold anything without a ticker or want fees in your records: the transaction form has no field for fees, commission or tax.
