XIRR calculator

Your portfolio's true annual return, computed from the dates and sizes of the deposits and withdrawals you actually made. Type them in or upload a broker CSV — the same XIRR as Excel, without the spreadsheet.

Add your deposits and withdrawals — or import a broker CSV — to see your true return.

Stop recomputing this by hand

Create a free account and import the same CSV. Your portfolio tracks itself, with your return charted against the S&P 500.

This calculator provides simplified estimates for educational purposes only and is not financial advice. The result is only as accurate as the flows you enter. Consult a qualified financial advisor before making decisions.

What XIRR tells you that a simple return can't

A simple return divides profit by everything you ever paid in — as if every deposit had been working from day one. But money you added last month barely had time to work, and money you withdrew stopped working the day it left. XIRR (the same function Excel ships) fixes this: it finds the one annual rate that makes all your dated cashflows and today's portfolio value add up, weighing every deposit and withdrawal by the time it was actually invested. That makes it the honest way to compare your investing against an ETF, a savings account or someone else's portfolio. This calculator uses Excel's convention (annual compounding, actual days over a 365-day year), so you can verify any result in a spreadsheet — and it can read the dated deposits and withdrawals straight from your broker's CSV export, converting each one at the exchange rate of its own day.
