Finviz is the web screener most US traders start with, running since 2007. The free tier is unusually complete: every fundamental and technical filter works without even an account, on 1-minute-delayed quotes with ads, alongside the signature S&P 500 heatmaps, sector groups and insider-trading tracker. Finviz Elite ($39.50/month or $299.50/year) adds real-time and premarket quotes, unlimited email and push alerts, full CSV export with an automation API, and ETF holdings data. Coverage is strictly US — NASDAQ, NYSE and AMEX — and the vendor states no international markets are planned. There is no mobile app and no language other than English, and the Elite backtesting tool that older reviews still describe was removed around 2023.

- The Elite backtester was removed (~2023) — third-party reviews that still praise it are stale

These two do different jobs: Finviz finds US stocks worth a look; PortfolioGlance tracks what you actually own after you buy. PortfolioGlance deliberately has no screener — no ticker discovery, no buy ideas — so if you need to scan the US market by RSI or P/E, Finviz is the right tool and we are not. What Finviz does not do is everything after the trade: it has watchlist-style portfolios but no cost basis analytics, no multi-currency accounting, no dividend tracking, no health score and no goal projection.
